CAN YOU HELP?

HAFFNER...MEIER
Mary Smith (redhd4str8@aol.com) 21 March 2003
I am trying to locate a Great Aunt. Her name is Katherine Margaret HAFFNER.
Her dad was Gottfried HAFFNER, her mom Katherine Elisabeth (WINTER) HAFFNER.
They immigrated into Lehigh, Marion County, Kansas from Tscherbakovka, Russia in
the mid 1800's. Katherine Margaret was the oldest child. In the Marion county
census in 1880 she is listed as being 19, single and living with her parents.
She was born August 4, 1861 in Tscherbakovka, Russia. During the Oklahoma land
run her family left for Omega, Oklahoma. From here we have lost her, until
1924, her dad died in Omega, Oklahoma and in his Will she is listed as a
surviving daughter with a current address of Lehigh, Kansas. She is also listed
as Katherine Margaret (HAFFNER) MEIER. We were fortunate enough to locate an
old family photo from her brother's Grand-daughter, it says "Andrew A. MEIER and
Katherine Margaret (HAFFNER) MEIER". I have contacted the Marion County Clerk's
office and they went through their cemetery database and this couple does not
appear to exist in any cemetery in Marion county. I am looking for anyone that
may also be looking for an Andrew MAIER, MEIER or MEYER. What happened to
them?! Where could they be in Kansas? In the obituary for her dad and her mom,
the amount of surviving Grandchildren are accounted for by her brother's
children. So they either had no children, or may have and the children had
passed away before 1924. Are there any old German cemeteries unaccounted for in
or around the Lehigh area? Her dad and mom were Seventh Day Adventists, are
there any old SDA cemeteries around Lehigh? Any information or ideas
appreciated. Someone was kind enough to send me the following family from an
old Agricultural census and this could be them. Any ideas what happened to this
family?

JANKE...UNRUH...SCHENKOFSKY

May Burke (mary579@hotmail.com) 26 January 2003
I am researching my family history an I am trying to gather information on my
Grandmother's family. Her name was Orlene JANKE, and she was born in Lehigh,
Kansas in 1914. Her father's name was Ephriam JANKE, and her mother's name was
Eva UNRUH. Ephriam was born in Russia in 1875 and immigrated to the United
States in 1880 with his parents, Peter JANKE and Maria SCHENKOFSKY, who were
born in Germany. Eva UNRUH's father was named David (I think). She was born in
Marion County, Kansas, as well. Her family, of course, were German-Russian
immigrants as well, but I don't know anything about them. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

STABEL
Carol Stabel (cjstabel@hotmail.com)  9 October 2003
I am interested in finding any immigration/relocation/residency/vital
records on the Henry STABEL family.
Henry and Anna STABEL lived in Stephan (Vodyanoi, Burerak, Russia, before
migrating to Lehigh, Kansas area in 1891.
Children born to them were:
  Fred STABEL
  George STABEL
  Henry STABEL
  Alma STABEL
  Frieda STABEL
  Lillie STABEL
  Emma STABEL
  Mary STABEL
As far as I know all were born in Marion County, Kansas.  The following
may be extraneous information, but I included it in the event it can be
helpful.
A baptismal certificate of Fred STABEL, son of Henry and Anna STABEL, from
an unnamed Lutheran church in Lehigh or Marion County, mentions the
presiding minister as Pastor Carl JAEKEL (possibly JACKEL), dated January
1898.  Fred was born September 29, 1897 in Lehigh, Marion County, Kansas.
Fred died July 29, 1969 and is buried in a cemetery in Darrouzett, Texas.
Moved To Shattuck, Ellis County, Oklahoma in 1901.
Moved to Lipscomb County, Texas in 1912
Were charter members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lipscomb, Texas
1915. (church merged with St. Paul's Lutheran, Darrouzett, Texas in
1961), Henry died March 31, 1945 and is buried at St. John's Lutheran
Cemetery, east of Lipscomb, Texas
