Mike's Memos August 26 We have had some vandalism the last several weeks to street signs and to the pipe fire hydrant protector at Main and Prospect. The Sheriffs office has a suspect in the latest damage but if anyone has any information please contact the Sheriffs office. We dont need to put up with this kind of thing. Thanks to all those who braved the drizzle and rain to attend our Indepence Day Celebration. It was wet but with a few pop up awnings and tarps we managed supper and it held off long enough for the fireworks. Clean up was impossible today and so some of that will have to wait until it dries out. But we really needed the rain. Thanks to those that donated some funds for the fireworks. Mikes tip for the day, If you find a lost cell phone and its not locked, Go to contacts and call MOM. She will know whose phone it is and how to return it. I did that with another one that was turned in at the Show. April Council Meeting. We hired 3 parttime workers to help maintain the city. Our former maintence man, Joel Ratsloff has moved on to other opportunities. Jason Terrell will be running the road grader and doing some street work, Bob Lemon will be mowing and helping with streets. Michael Murphy,a new resident will be doing water meter replacements and general work. Jason and Mike have other jobs and Bob is retired. Currently they are working together to clean out and upgrade the equipment shed. Lehigh Fire We have several new members coming on the fire department and are ordering radios and bunker gear for them. The council will be presenting in the near future an official policy on our fire department and how we would like future dispatch to operate with our equipment and mutual aid May Council Meeting. We signed a contract with EBH to do the preliminary work on a water system upgrade. This is the first step in a 5 to 7 year project. This initial contract is for 6000.00. We also signed a 3 yr contract with Stutzman Refuge. The price will remain the same for that period. They are starting a recycling program. In Marion County we would not save any money due to the yearly fee we pay to the county for the transfer station but we could reduce the amount we send there by recycling. Cost would be 2.25 to 3.00 dollars a month. Contact the council if you are interested. We accepted the donation of a Main St lot next to the Post Office from the RJ Bartel estate. Proceeds will go to the Park Fund. ACCESS TO THE LIMB DUMP. Contact John Masson or Brad Dies for the key. Due to the theft of numerous locks and keys, we have decided to limit key access.Sorry for any inconvience. Continuing training and inprovement to the fire dept. Addition of lighting in the big park pavillion. Adding a smooth concrete surface to the old school floor in the big park for a multi-use area. In addition I would like to explore the possiblities of applying for a grant to build a community building in that location. A simple steel building with bathrooms and Kitchen for family and city functions. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, willing to help with grant writing or labor? Let me know what you think.
