VOLUNTEER Many of us volunteer out of habit or tradition around Thanksgiving time. What we may not realize is that apart from satisfying some sense of obligation, helping others can actually improve our mental and physical health. A Vanderbilt University and University of Michigan study of 3,617 men and women found that those who reported participating in some sort of volunteer work were happier, less likely to be depressed and had beter physical health than those who didn't. Next time you're feeling down, consider volunteering a little time to a community service project in your area - it could be just the thing to lift your spirits. (Womens Day, November 13, 2007) If you would like to be included on Mike's official list of volunteers, please give him a call. You may also leave a message on the city line, e-mail the city or web-site, or sign-up at the Post Office. We will try to keep a current list of those volunteers on this link. Thank you. |
