Held in April, Florence's Spring Fling celebrates the arrival of spring. Residents and visitors enjoy activities for the whole family and having some great food and conversation with all their neighbors. Call 620-878-4296 or email the Florence Pride Committee.

Coinciding with Florence's Sping Fling, the Tour de Florence sets out early Sunday morning for a 40-mile ride that is breathtaking in many different ways! (Also, there will be a 25-mile cut-off in case it’s a little early in the ride season for anyone.) The ride winds through the beautiful and scenic Flint Hills and ends with a BBQ picnic back at the ball diamond where you started. Call 620-878-4296 or email the Florence Pride Committee. The Florence High School Alumni Association, the oldest continuing alumni association in the state of Kansas, holds their annual Florence Alumni Banquet on Memorial Day Weekend. Students from past classes of Florence and Marion High Schools meet to visit with old classmates. Call 620-878-4296 or email the Florence Alumni Association.

The Marion County Fair, July 25 - 28, features a carnival, rodeo, demolition derby, 4-H exhibits, rodeo, animal shows, airplane rides, ATV challenge, figure 8 race & food. Call 620-947-3506 or view the schedule of events.

Marion's Chingawassa Days are fun for the entire family! Each year brings a new big name act. Past year’s entertainment has included “The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band,” “Kentucky HeadHunters,” “Three Dog Night,” “38 Special,” “Little River Band,” “Little Texas” and “Restless Heart!” Lots of music, food, bed races, contests, rides and games, anvil shoot, pedal tractor pull, Texas Hold ‘Em Contest, bingo, motorcycle Poker Run, and much more! Goessel's Mennonite Heritage Barn Tour is a nostalgic tour of barns in the Goessel community on a Sunday afternoon in June. Each barn on the tour has a unique story. Learn about the people that farmed the Kansas prairies and the central role of the barn to the farm family. Peabody's annual 4th of July Celebration is a big hit with people from all over the state who travel here every year for the parade, festivities and fireworks. The fireworks display includes the largest ground display of fireworks and set pieces in the state of Kansas. The events include a carnival, softball tournaments, horseshoe tournament, dances, car show, kids games, entertainment and the best parade and fireworks display in the state of Kansas! Summer brings on the time for Florence's Harvey House Picnic by the Florence Historical Society to help raise funds to continue the operation and maintenance of the Harvey House Museum. There is a choice of fried fish or mountain oysters, and an abundance of side dishes, breads, desserts and drinks, made and/or donated by some of the best cooks in the area. The 2008 Harvey House Picnic will be held June 28th at 5:00pm at the Harvey House.

Labor Day in Florence is traditional, being celebrated for over 50 years with the highlight being the parade which has always started at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning. But the activities and entertainment start on the previous Friday evening, and are scattered throughout the entire weekend. The Fire Departments of Marion County's annual Labor Day Fireworks include an afternoon with Games, Food, a Raffle Drawing for a rifle or shotgun, a fishing contest and the grand finale, a fireworks display at dusk!. Held at the Marion County Lake.

Goessel's Threshing Days is an old-fashioned threshing demonstration and show full of entertainment and education from musical groups to storytellers about the "good old days". Visitors will enjoy ethnic food such as verenike, zwiebach, sausage, bierochs and cherry moos, as well as hamburgers, sandwiches, homemade ice cream and funnel cakes. Visitors can step into the past with a tour of the museum complex which consists of eight buildings, including the Immigrant House and the Turkey Red Wheat Palace. Six historic buildings from the Community have been moved to the museum for preservation and restoration. More than 100 exhibitors from a 7-state area will display and demonstrate antique equipment related to farming during the past century. Each year a specific type of equipment is featured. Goessel's Mennonite Heritage Festival is a one day events held in the fall every year and features old fashioned fun at the Mennonite Heritage Museum. All ages are invited to join in old fashioned games, learn a craft and view demonstrations of everyday activities from the early 1900s. Call 620-367-8200

Marion's Old Settler’s Day, held the last Saturday in September includes a morning run at Marion County Park and Lake, pParade at 11 a.m. on Main Street, and food and games in Central Park, Call 620-382-3425.

The Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair is celebrating 37 years of supporting hand made arts and crafts. This annual festival is juried and takes place on the third Saturday in September in downtown Hillsboro. The close to 400 artists and craftsmen who are selected by our committee of judges come from all over the country to display and sell their one of a kind creations. The fair is rated among the top 100 arts and crafts shows in the country in several categories and is well worth any drive. Marion's Art in the Park and Craft Show, is held the 2nd Saturday in September in beautiful Central Park, downtown Marion. Over 250 artists from all around the United States, live entertainment, large food court, all in a shady and relaxing setting. Gift certificates will be given away from the Chamber of Commerce, to be used at the craft show. Playground nearby and safe atmosphere. Call 620-382-3425 or email Margo Yates.

Florence's Antique and Arts Fair, held the second Saturday in September. The Florence PRIDE uses the opportunity of thousands of vehicles passing by to attract visitors to our city for this fair. Now there are three reasons to come to Marion County in September, with Hillsboro's Arts and Crafts Fair, and Marion's Art in the Park. We are all just ten miles from each other on newly paved highways. This is a Free Fair for shoppers with free parking close to downtown and no admission. There will be plenty of local food vendors. "Visions from the Past" will be featured at the Mennonite Heritage Museum Borscht and Chili Supper Fund-raiser at the museum grounds, 200 N. Poplar, in Goessel. Starting at 5:15 and going on to 6:45 p.m. people will be portraying what it was like to live in the Schroeder Barn, Friesen House, Krause House and South Bloomfield School and Pioneer Room in the Immigrant House. Mayleen Vinson, researcher of the 16 one-room schools surrounding the Goessel Community, will display her research results and answer questions about the display. A special prop has been created to allow people to have their photo taken in the "Mennonite Gothic Style" for only $10. Randolph A. Schmidt will provide answers to "How did that machine work?" about the many machines located in the Wheat Palace. The Museum Store will be open. Chili and the familiar heritage "Borscht" soup and the trimmings will be served in the Prep School from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to spend an enjoyable fall evening at the Mennonite Heritage Museum at this fund-raising event. Held the first Saturday in October, at the City Park, Lincolnville's Oktoberfest features entertainment, arts and crafts booths, food booths, a parade and a dance. Call 620-924-5208.

Peabody Main Street Association hosts a celebration of the season, their annual Peabody Prairie Christmas. This all day event will feature stories with Father Christmas, tablescape displays by local merchants, buggy rides, cookie walk, craft demonstrations, kids crafts and games, a parade to welcome Santa to Peabody, a Chuckwagon Supper and more!
